Our Keynote on ‘English Education; challenges and priorities for the next decade. Including implications for school and college organisation and prospects for capital spending’ will be given by David Laws Executive Chairman of the Education Policy Institute and former Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Schools Minister, and Cabinet Office Minister.

Twice on the main stage we will have Professor Stephen Heppell CEO Heppell.net Limited and Felipe Segovia Chair in Learning Innovation at Universidad Camilo José Cela, Madrid. He is described by MacMillan Education as a “renowned expert in education, media, technology and learning environments and by Microsoft as “Europe’s leading online education expert”.

The Study Day is very much a ‘nuts-and-bolts, hands-on’ event with the emphasis on real experiences and lessons learned, so the day is interspersed with workshops and case studies for delegates to tailor the day to their needs, with three sessions running during the day:

In the afternoon of Wednesday 19th June there will be a visit to the George Davies Building, University of Leicester. Designed to minimise environmental impact while providing a pleasant space in which to teach, learn and work, the George Davies Centre is the largest non-residential building in the UK to meet the exacting ‘Passivhaus’ standard.

In the evening there will be informal dinner and drinks at Wygstons House where there will be an opportunity to network with those staying the night before. The evening is being sponsored by Concertus.

This year’s Study Day will be held on Thursday 20th June at De Montfort University, Leicester on the theme of Education. You can book your tickets here.

We have two speakers for the day

SPACES: Submissions for the 2019 Yearbook and Awards

We are now looking for submissions for the SPACES Yearbook and Civic Building of the Year Awards 2019.

Submission date: Friday 22nd February 2019

You are invited to submit any project which has received an element of public funding. Submissions are invited nationally and can include:

  • New building and refurbishment projects across the public sector
  • Buildings that add value to the communities they serve
  • Buildings from all sectors of public construction
  • Projects that demonstrate collaboration
  • Projects that demonstrate Engineering excellence/ingenuity
  • Surveying projects that renew embedded value
  • Examples of construction team excellence
  • Articles of interest on public sector buildings

Anyone can make a submission whether you are the client, architect, contractor, engineer, surveyor or project manager who feels there is merit in a particular building or project.

From these a shortlist will be made of those projects that are eligible to enter the Civic Building of the Year Awards.

Please note:

  • Schemes must have been completed and be operational between 1st October 2017 and 31st October 2018.
  • They must also have received an element of public funding to aid their delivery.
  • There is no limit to the number of submissions per client/organisation and anyone involved in the scheme can submit an application.
  • A shortlist of projects for the yearbook and awards will be produced during March 2019. Subsequent information and access for visits maybe required. If SPACES does not receive a response within 6 weeks we reserve the right to remove the project from the yearbook and/or awards process.
