SPACES are pleased to announce the projects that have been successfully shortlisted for the Civic Building of the Year (CBOY) and SPACES Awards and will be in the yearbook.

The winner of the Civic Building of the Year, and other awards will be announced at our Annual Awards and President’s Dinner, being held in early November.

Fire safety guidance strengthened for new high-rise homes
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities have published new regulations and updated guidance on the provision of fire safety measures in residential buildings on 1st June 2022.

HSE’s Planning Gateway One (PGO) process
HSE’s Planning Gateway One (PGO) process is encouraging industry to raise design standards for tall buildings in England, paving the way for the introduction of a much more stringent building safety regime.
Developers and designers should consider fire safety needs such as site layout, safe escape routes and safe access for firefighters, so that buildings are designed to be safer.

On the 11th June the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities launched round 2 of Community Ownership Fund. Community groups across the UK can bid for levelling up funding to take back control of pubs, music venues, sports facilities, and historic buildings for the benefit of the public.

The Net Zero Innovation Programme develops partnerships of researchers and climate change officers from councils across all English regions and supports them in tackling the climate emergency. It is now open for expressions of interest.

Design Code Pathfinders Support Grant Programme
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities are creating a Design Code Pathfinders Support Grant Programme.
Up to £450K programme will be made available to organisations to offer support and expertise to local planning authorities across England, helping them produce design codes so communities can shape the design of their neighbourhoods.
25 local areas will be supported through the grant to set standards around design.

LGA Decarbonisation Study: Call for Case Studies
The team at DG Cities are working with the Local Government Association to explore what works when designing and delivering hyper-local projects to decarbonise neighbourhoods. They are keen to learn from local authorities and their partners from across the UK and around the world.
