Meet SPACES members face to face

Technical Meeting – Tuesday 7th December 2021

There will be a joint Technical Meeting with CIBSE HCNE at the Counting House, London on Tuesday 7th December, followed by a Christmas Buffet.

The  presenter will Hywel Davies, Technical Manager at CIBSE, and although the presentation is still tbc, it will be covering

Building Regulation Part L,
Building Safety Bill, and
the Golden Thread

As this is the Christmas meeting, the meeting will be followed by a Christmas Buffet.  NB Due to pre-ordering Christmas Buffet is only available to order up to Friday 19th November 2021

Attendance at the meeting is free for SPACES members and CIBSE HCNE members, and £35+VAT for non-members (£5+VAT if not attending the buffet).

Annual General Meeting – Thursday 7th October @12:30pm

It is a requirement of the SPACES By-Laws that an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held each year.

This year the AGM was held online on Thursday 7th October 2021 from 12:30 to 1:30pm (NB The AGM should not last longer than 30 minutes).

Housing Advisers Programme

The LGA’s Housing Advisers Programme for 2021/22 is now open for applications.

The programme is designed to support councils by helping them meet their local housing need and provides funding for expert advice. It aims to be simple, flexible and locally led.

Deadline for applications is 15 November 2021. See here for more information. 
 

Pass the planet 

In the run up to COP26, the LGA are showcasing best practice from councils across England and Wales through their Pass the Planet campaign.

The Future of Architecture 

Architects from across the UK are being given the opportunity to shape the future of the profession, as part of a wholesale review that will modernise regulation and improve accessibility and innovation in the sector.

This consultation closes at 11:45pm on 8th November 2021

Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme 

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme provides grants for public sector bodies to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures.

Phase 3 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme will open for applications on at 2pm on 6 October. It will close at 2pm on 3rd November 2021.

Phases 1 and 2 are now closed to applications.

Net Zero Strategy: Build Back Greener

BEIS have launched their policies and proposals for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy to meet net zero target by 2050.

Plan to drive down the cost of clean heat 

BEIS have launched plans to incentivise people to install low-carbon heating systems in a simple, fair and cheap way as they replace their old boilers over the coming decade.

PAS 8672 for comment 

BSI have announced that the draft for PAS 8672, a new specification that provides a framework for the competence of Principal Contractors, is now available for public consultation. Development of the PAS is sponsored by Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and forms part of a broader built environment competence standards programme from BSI. Consultation ends 10th November 2021.

Future Homes: Electrical Safety in the Net Zero Home
 

Electrical Safety First have launched their report on what they believe are the challenges  and identified the key actors who have a role to play in ensuring electrical safety during the transition to net zero, and offers recommendations that will help to keep consumers safe from electrical risks.

One Public Estate and Self and Custom-Build

Councils across the country can now bid for a share of £20m to deliver self and custom build projects across their region. Applications should be submitted by 11:59pm Monday 8 November 2021.

UK Architects Declare: Practice Guide 2021 

UK Architects Declare has published its Practice Guide, which we’ve developed to help signatory architectural practices convert their declaration of a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency into meaningful action and build momentum within their practice. Co-written by members of the AD Steering Group and many volunteers and reviewed by leading industry experts, it features over 60 exemplar projects from a range of practices in the UK and abroad.
