Celebrate – Presidents’ Dinner and Awards 2022

Steve Rufus, incoming President and Jackie Lowe, outgoing President of SPACES warmly invite you to the Presidents’ Dinner and Awards, incorporating the Civic Building of the Year sponsored by Faithful+Gould and Mike Britch Award for innovation sponsored by Norse Consulting on Thursday 3rd November 2022 at the Pentahotel, Oxford Road, Reading, RG1 7RH.

The evening commences at 7:00pm with a pre-dinner drinks reception, with a three course dinner at 7.30pm. Following dinner the winners of the SPACES Awards 2022, including the Civic Building of the Year, will be announced and the 2022 SPACES Yearbook will be unveiled.

The dress code is formal (optional). So it means that Black Tie doesn’t have to be worn (many people use it as an excuse to dress up).

During the evening there will be a raffle in support of the Presidents’ Charity – Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

£120 +VAT – non members

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities have produced guidance on how to take account of and address the risks associated with flooding and coastal change in the planning process.

Further Education Sustainable Estates Guidance

Department for Education has published Further Education Sustainable Estates Guidance. It gives advice for further education (FE) providers on how to define a sustainable FE estate and deliver sustainable capital investment see here for more information.

It has also been included to the guidance documents and tools to help with the design and construction of school and further education college buildings and grounds see here for more information. 


National Procurement Strategy for Local Government

The LGA have refreshed their National Procurement Strategy for Local Government – and its accompanying toolkit – to support local authorities of all types, sizes and geographies to maximise opportunities in their supply chains. The strategy places additional emphasis on adding value and social value and provides councils with an opportunity to continue measuring their improvement.

PAS 8671:2022 Built environment – Framework for competence of individual Principal Designers – Specification

As part of the drive to secure the safety of people in and about buildings and improve design work compliance, the Principal Designer Duty holder role was introduced.

The new standard – PAS 8671:2022 Built environment – Framework for competence of individual Principal Designers – Specification – specifies competence thresholds that individuals are expected to meet when delivering or managing the duty holder functions of the Principal Designer role under the Building Safety Act.

It will enable the assessment of skills, knowledge, experience and behaviour required by individual Principal Designers for the role.
